Customers Reviews 2008-08-29 Volume won't stay up This is a nice slick looking device and the button design is nice. But as many others stated the volume issue is what killed it.
The pairing is a snap. I brought this from a store and set it up when I get back in my car in less than a minute. As soon as I got it paired up a call came in. The initial volume was too low so I press the + button to increase the speaker volume and it works great. I can hear the caller clearly and the other party has no problem hearing me. However when I start driving down the highway another call came in and the volume level went back to the initial level, so I had to press the + button to increase it before I can hear the caller clearly. At this point I was thinking it might be an operator error. So I call up a friend and sure enough the volume went back to the low level again!
I got home and take a look at the manual on the CD to see if there is some trick to set the volume permanently but there is none!
It is a slick piece of hardware but it is also a road hazard. Everytime when a call comes in you'll have to adjust the volume! Which is a big distraction!
I already ordered the Blueant Supertooth Light from Amazon. Once the order came in I'm returning this. | 2008-08-19 Pleasantly Surprised! Works very well with the 3G iPhone. I've been trying to decide for several weeks which bluetooth speakerphone to purchase and have been reading a lot of reviews, including an OEM add-on kit, those popular here on Amazon, and also the one bluetooth speakerphone available in the Apple Store. Several of the devices are feature rich but alot of those features were not supported on my 3G iPhone except by third party add-on applications.
I had not read the reviews about the Jabra sp5050 until at Best Buy a few days ago. I noticed the sp5050 had been marked down to less than $60 so I used my iPhone to get on Amazon and read the pretty good reviews here. Some of the systems I've been considering were several hundred dollars so I thought what the heck, for $60 I would give it a try.
I took it out to the call, plugged it in and quickly and easily paired it with my iPhone. I made a couple of calls; one to home and talked to my wife and she didn't even know I was on a speaker. The other call was just to leave a voice mail on my office phone and I couldn't tell any difference between my iPhone or the Jabra speaker.
The features that are supported by the iPhone work well. Voice dialing is not supported by the iPhone presently so I can't comment on that. This bluetooth speaker is not what I consider feature rich but it does what I need to do. I have my iPhone in a cradle high on the front of the dash just beyond the steering wheel, so dialing on the iPhone large numbers is not an issue.
As stated above, purchasing the Jabra sp5050 possibly saved a couple of hundred dollars or more and I'm pleasantly surprised how easy it is to operate and the clarity of the sound...and it works with my 3G iPhone. It does more than I expected for the price, thus the 5-stars. | 2008-08-17 I like it Overall, I am very pleased with this unit. It is small. Easy to use. The battery holds up well and charges from the car cord in a couple of hours. I have used it to carry on long conversations and that is where it really shines. The volume is a little low at highway speeds in my Honda Accord but it is useable. On city streets or stopped in traffic it is great. I have asked people who I talk to if I need to pick up the phone and they say no they can hear me fine. Once in a while I have to use the "Use Bluetooth" menu to get it to reconnect if I have been out of range and the units loose connection but that is just a couple of clicks on my Motorola Razor 3x. Many times I get back to the car and it just connects and we are ready to go. Other than the volume limitation on the highway I'd give it a 5 star....So it is pretty good unit.... | 2008-08-12 lightweight and good clarity With the handsfree law taking in effect in CA, I looked at several bluetooth speakerphone devices for my wife (she refuses to use those earbuds). The clarity of the Jabra has been very good, on both ends of the conversation. The noise cancelling technology seems to work as good as the built-in one in my car. My brother-in-law and sister-in-law have both bought one after talking with my wife when she was using the Jabra.
I also like the low weight of the device - all of these units clip to the visor, and it seemd like some of the heavier units were likely to slip off if you flipped the visor down. | 2008-08-11 Volume Too Low The volume on this speakerphone was too low and could not be adjusted. I returned it. |
