Touchscreen Display Monitor For Up-To-Minute News
The flat colored touchscreen display monitor, that can be roled up and put in a purse like a newspaper, will be out pretty soon, unless it will be tested in Seattle as planned.
Possibly in 2 years Seattle Post-Intelligencer readers will be getting their morning news from a new electronic newspaper displayed on a screen not even worse than a humble paper. The screen will get the size of a small tabloid newspaper, with all spectrum of colors.
The e-papers’ pages will be turned by touching flexible screen display. By the way it will deliver up-to-a-minute news on the front page every day. Then, if moving out, you can roll it up in your pocket and carry on you all day to be informed quickly and immediately.
Hearst Corp. has an agreement with Seattle Times Co. to print and distribute both papers. It aims at testing a long-promised e-paper in Seattle.
Its peculiarities can impress anyone. The e-paper screen absorbs reflected day light. It requires little power and can operate for a month or more on flashlight batteries.
Hearst’s flexible electronic newspaper will have a capacity similar to Sony’s Digital Reader, which is able to display up to 25 300-page books, using E Ink technology.
But traditional newspapers formats can be hardly adapted to computer displays, which have side distortion. And colored screens wash out when folded.

However, LG Philips claims that it has solved many of those screen problems. Philips has developed a 14.1-inch color touchscreen display monitor (pictured above) with the help of E Ink’s technology. It will have the width of a tabloid, with the clarity of a traditional newspaper, and is folded with no fade or distortion.
That is the future newspaper for everyone anywhere anytime. If the price will be acceptable , and all the claimed characteristics will be introduced, that would be a real break-through in technology.
