April’s Hottest 40-inch LCD HDTV At Amazon
High-definition television will be seen in 44 million homes around the world by the end of 2008, a research firm says, with HD homes rising to nearly 180 million by 2012.
According to a new forecast from London-based Informa Telecoms & Media, about 4% of worldwide households will actively watch HD programming by the end of this year, up from 2% at the end of 2007. Let’s have a look at the best-seller of 40-inch LCD HDTV at Amazon.

On April 10, the answer is…Samsung’s 40-inch 1080p LCD HDTV, available today for $1,139 — 34 percent off the suggested list price. The flat-panel set, model LNT406IF, has a contrast ratio of 10,000 to 1, 3 HDMI inputs, a swivel stand, a 1920 x 1080 picture resolution and weighs just 38.6 pounds, ideal for mounting onto a wall.
The high-def set is ranked #32 today in Amazon’s rankings of best selling electronics products and it has a customer rating of 4.5 stars based on 198 reviews.
For people looking to step up to full 1080p resolution in a 40-inch flat-panel LCD, Samsung’s 2007 model LNT4061FF is a good choice. Besides offering full 1080p resolution the LNT4061F also features a 10,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio for rich blacks and subltle texture display, an 8ms response time panel for smooth motion, hidden side speakers, an NTSC tuner, and 3 HDMI ports.
Compared to other Samsung Models
The primary differences between Samsung’s LNT4061F and the LNT4065F LCD HDTV is in the contrast ratio and video processing power. The pricier LNT4065F offers a 15,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio compared to this model’s 10,000:1 ratio, and also offers full 10bit video processing over this model’s 8 bit system. The more expensive model should display finer gradients of shading making for more detail in darker scenes. The video processing difference should ensure smoother motion in fast moving scenes for the LNT4065F.
Video Processing
The Samsung Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe) Video Enhancer refines all analog NTSC and wideband video inputs for an overall improvement in picture quality. DNIe improves contrast, white level, picture detail and incorporates digital noise reduction to improve lower quality video inputs. The 3D Y/C digital comb filter constantly analyzes the three dimensions of picture height, picture width, and picture changes-over-time to dramatically reduce edge image artifacts while improving transition detail.

Memory Stick-on Note Card With Alarm Clock
British designers of the Ixp-Note, which is 1mm thick and features a built-in alarm clock, stated that this note card would allow the user to enter the time and date of an upcoming event by touching the note card with the finger. When time comes, the note will beep or flash.

- The user can write the event that they are afraid to forget on a glowing strip, which will be programmed to remind in time by beeping or flashing.
- Thermo-chromic ink is intergrated to change color in response to temperature .
- It provides low-cost electronic circuit printing technology as in musical greeting cards.
- No worries about battery life – it lasts up to a year.
- Low cost at 2 pounds each (with a pack of ten)
This mixture of touchpod and alarm was originally designed for Alzheimer’s patients, but surely it can be used all around the office or home. So it foreshadows a new memo technology that will help remember any event, every date.
Telegraph investigated that the notes will be on sale next year.

Touchscreen Display Monitor For Up-To-Minute News
The flat colored touchscreen display monitor, that can be roled up and put in a purse like a newspaper, will be out pretty soon, unless it will be tested in Seattle as planned.
Possibly in 2 years Seattle Post-Intelligencer readers will be getting their morning news from a new electronic newspaper displayed on a screen not even worse than a humble paper. The screen will get the size of a small tabloid newspaper, with all spectrum of colors.
The e-papers’ pages will be turned by touching flexible screen display. By the way it will deliver up-to-a-minute news on the front page every day. Then, if moving out, you can roll it up in your pocket and carry on you all day to be informed quickly and immediately.
Hearst Corp. has an agreement with Seattle Times Co. to print and distribute both papers. It aims at testing a long-promised e-paper in Seattle.
Its peculiarities can impress anyone. The e-paper screen absorbs reflected day light. It requires little power and can operate for a month or more on flashlight batteries.
Hearst’s flexible electronic newspaper will have a capacity similar to Sony’s Digital Reader, which is able to display up to 25 300-page books, using E Ink technology.
But traditional newspapers formats can be hardly adapted to computer displays, which have side distortion. And colored screens wash out when folded.

However, LG Philips claims that it has solved many of those screen problems. Philips has developed a 14.1-inch color touchscreen display monitor (pictured above) with the help of E Ink’s technology. It will have the width of a tabloid, with the clarity of a traditional newspaper, and is folded with no fade or distortion.
That is the future newspaper for everyone anywhere anytime. If the price will be acceptable , and all the claimed characteristics will be introduced, that would be a real break-through in technology.
