Old Modern Decorative Tube Clocks Back To Space Race
Peter Jensen builds a line of affordable modern decorative Nixie clocks empowered by Ramsey Electronics. He offers a wide range of kits and assembled clocks from a $99 four digital kit to a $495 6-digit gadget created from a solid block of aluminum and polished to bear resemblance to old-school Cylon.
The Nixie tube was debuted in 1954, and got the first digital displays to provide the latest scientific equipment. Having experienced in research and military equipment, Nixies are known for their modern devices nowadays.
These clocks recall old stock space race period Russian Nixie tubes. The numbers gleam soft orange in glass tubes. The Russian built tubes have a unique conversation starter: the “5″ is an upside down number “2″, reminding of a cost effective design philosophy dated back to the cold war superpower.
The clocks were designed to pay homage to the era of the Nixie’s birth. These clocks won’t play music, connect to the Internet or measure blood pressure. They will display the time in a beautiful and simply manner. Time setting is realized by simple pressing the two buttons on the back, one button is for hours, the other is for minutes.
